The year 2013 will showcase the significance of mathematics on our planet. Mathematics plays a role in weather patterns, ocean waves, rock formation, natural resources, computer software, wall street, medical equipment, transportation, food production, and much much more. Mathematics of Planet Earth (MPE) is a global initiative with activities (such as competitions, workshops, summer schools, collaborative research groups, special journal issues, etc.) being conducted around the world. MPE is being supported by international institutions, teaching associations, research centres, societies and scientific organizations. For a complete list, click here.
