National Occupational Classification (NOC)

The National Occupational Classification is a comprehensive reference on occupations in Canada. It has 40000 job titles under 500 occupational description. These jobs fall under ten general occupational structures:

  • management
  • business, finance and administration
  • natural and applied sciences and related
  • health
  • education, law and social, community and government services
  • art, culture, recreation and sport
  • sales and service
  • trades, transport and equipment operators and related
  • natural resources, agriculture, production and related
  • manufacturing and utilities

NOC is published every five years (the most recent being 2011) and provides statistics and information on the evolution of Canada’s labour market. The 2006 NOC is also available online.
