Three Minute Thesis

3MT

Created in 2008 at the University of Queensland, Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a presentation competition for graduate students. The challenge is for students to present their masters or doctoral research in no more than 3 minutes to a non-specialized audience and judging panel. One static slide is accompanied with the 3 minute presentation. No other aids are allowed.

One of the main objectives of the competition is to teach young researchers to communicate their research in common terms without losing necessary details and without requiring too much time to describe. The competition is also a great opportunity to network and learn more about research within and outside your field (in a short period of time).

One of the first Canadian universities to participate in 3MT is the University of British.  The province of Ontario is holding a provincial wide 3MT competition. The top two presenters from each Ontario university will have a chance to compete at the finals held at Queen’s University on April 18, 2013. Participating universities include:

Queen’s University

Ryerson University

Trent University

University of Guelph

Univeristy of Waterloo

University of Western Ontario

University of Windsor

Wilfred Laurier University

York University
